Growing Up In My Neighborhood

HUNTER'S POINT PROJECTS

For about fifteen years or so I have lived in the Jets, which is also considered the projects, in hunters point to be exact. I live in condos where two story houses are side by side, in which they are so close to each other I can even hear other people walking down the stairs or hear there conversations. I say that one of the best features about where I live at is the view of the bay bridge as well as the whole east bay. I have seen many of my neighbors move in and out, many whom I don’t even talk to as much. It might have to do with hard times that people are facing with the economy, there is a lot of violence where I live and is not the kind of environment I would want myself  as well as my family to live in. It can get so bad where people can get robbed on the bus for their shoes, phones, iPods, or just their money. Where I live, it's really hard that I have to constantly watch my back just in case anybody tries to do something. It was never like this with all the violence and gang activity that goes on now. I remember everyday when I was a little kid neighbors would have BBQs, and everybody was invited but now times have changed. I have become a person who wants to better myself for the future and to reach the goal towards success. While living in the projects it has made me the kind of person who will do whatever it takes to move my family out of the projects and into a nice and beautiful house for my mom to live in. Living in the projects has made me the kind of person that knows how hard it is, where I can be easily influenced by negative aspects that come around my way but I have learned to get overcome them.
